Management Trainee Programme

We have our own dedicated management trainee programme, called 'Aspire To'. The aim of the programme is to foster the future leaders of our businesses, and we currently put over 120 people through it each year.


There are many success stories of trainees who have gone on to senior and high-profile roles in the company. In fact, the current managing director of Education was a trainee back in 1971!

Four levels of the 'Aspire To' scheme:

  • Level 1 - to support supervisors and team leaders to progress to become managers
  • Level 2 - to support managers who aspire to be senior managers
  • Level 3 - for senior managers who aspire to be an operational or functional director
  • Level 4 - for operational and functional directors who aspire to join the executive board

MeetingPeopleLaughing The programme starts with a schedule of activities designed to build on existing experiences, after which you will follow a structured programme combining workshops, self study, on- and off-the-job training and assignments. Assessment is ongoing: you will enjoy attentive support, mentoring and regular progress checks with your manager with weekly objectives, bi-monthly review sessions and quarterly progress reviews including formal presentations.

At any level, you'll need to be a motivated and innovative thinker with the broad commercial acumen and people management skills to achieve excellence. A positive attitude, real enthusiasm and a commitment to your own development will also be important. You'll be measured against our management competencies during the programme, which will ensure that you have the right skills, behaviours and knowledge to progress.
