Paul Rankin visits Bishop Stopford School

Pupils, teachers and catering staff at Bishop Stopford School in Kettering were paid a visit by celebrity chef, Paul Rankin, today.

During his day-long visit, the TV favourite, who has worked with the school's caterers, Sodexho, for five years, addressed a series of school assemblies on the importance of healthy eating.

After meeting staff at the school, Paul Rankin went on to supervise pupils as they baked a range of bread based products for a Healthy Snack competition. The pupils' freshly baked creations were subsequently put on display to allow Paul to taste and select the winner.

The winner, Ruth Bland, received an iPod as her prize and will also see her winning wholewheat bread, stuffed with ham, tomatoes, cheese, eggs and olives, added to Sodexho's 'For You' menu, becoming available to schools within Sodexho Education across the country

Finally, Paul met with Sodexho's cooks at the school to discuss how to encourage pupils to eat healthy foods.

Jim Parker, Assistant Head Teacher, said, "Pupils and staff were delighted to welcome Paul Rankin to the school today. As well as meeting and chatting to everyone at the school, Paul's visit presented a great opportunity to discuss the more serious topic of healthy eating. We're now all looking forward to seeing the winning healthy snack appear on Sodexho's menus in the coming weeks!"

Sodexho is committed to improving the quality of school meals and encouraging children to think about what they eat and the lifestyle they adopt. It continually reviews its service and organises promotional campaigns which help drive home the healthy eating message.

Sodexho does a lot of work behind the scenes to boost the nutritional content of its school meals whilst retaining their appeal to children and sees lowering the salt, fat and sugar content of its food as a key feature of its healthier eating policy.
