The £1.7 million a year contract includes the provision of catering, cleaning, portering and caretaking, plus laundry and linen at various sites on the Shetland Islands including the Board's head office, two hospitals (Gilbert Bain and Montfield) and health centre in Lerwick and health centres in Brae and Bixter. In total Sodexho employs 100 people within the contract.
Sodexho has been providing services at the hospital since 1992, the new contract will begin in January 2007. Chief Executive of the Board Sandra Laurenson said 'We are pleased to announce this contract award and look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with Sodexho. Patients will continue to enjoy the same high standards of service that we have come to expect from Sodexho and their staff.
Earlier this year Sodexho and the Board celebrated coming in as runner up for the Scotland's Best Cleaned Premises in the British Institute of Cleaning Sciences (BICS) for Excellence in Cleaning Awards 2006.
